Fiona Rene opens up about Reenie’s feelings for Colter, Russell and her law firm (exclusive)

Colter (Justin Hartley) going to the land of wine – after Reena (Fiona Rene) calls him to settle the matter.

In the November 3 episode AbstractAfter a woman goes missing, Reenie takes Colter to an upscale CEO wellness resort in Napa. And she’s not alone there…Michael Rady guest stars as her stuffed animal Elliot. Below, Rene previews the episode, talks about Reenie and Colter’s complicated relationship, and more.

We need to talk about Reena and her own law firm. Love it. She seems to enjoy it. You seem to enjoy it.

Fiona René: I am. I definitely am. I mean, I just feel like she doesn’t like the idea of responding to anyone, especially a man. So yes, to be able to operate on your own and be able to take care of your own business and control it, I think that’s the most exciting thing.

And this season we get her and Velma working together, which is a lot of fun.

Abby McEnany he’s literally a ball of lightning, so when he comes on set and we hang out and have fun together, I mean the energy is just palpable. Yes, she’s great.

Going back to this week’s episode, Reenie is the one who brings Colter into the case, so take a look at what happens and how she gets involved.

Reenie goes on a CEO retreat. She has her own company, so she has all these bougie clients she’s trying to get, and one of them takes her as a guest on a wine country retreat, and something happens and she realizes she has to call Colter, which is funny because this is not his scene. What’s interesting is the idea of when you find yourself in a place where you feel like you don’t belong, how you react to it and how Colter reacts to it, and what kind of banter Reenie and him get throughout the episode. It was really funny. So he calls Colter and he comes and helps the guy who was running the retreat find this person.

I always feel like Reenie is in control.

I mean, I’m not going to say she doesn’t have control issues. I won’t say there’s a bit of type casting there. I won’t say it. What I will say is that she can let go of control when she needs to and when she feels safe. But I think she needs to be smart and if she has a good idea, she’ll say something. He just won’t pretend it doesn’t exist.

He has a plus for this retreat. Talk about Elliot and describe their relationship.

Honest. Reenie and Elliot moved on a long time ago from the company she worked for, and ultimately I think Reenie is looking for availability – emotional and physical – not just chemistry and spark. I think a woman of her caliber gets to the point where she doesn’t have time to play games or have anything fleeting or lustful. So I think Elliot really gives her a safe space where he’s really available and kind and willing and there’s no question about what she’s thinking and feeling. It’s open. This is what a woman needs these days.

But speaking of chemistry and lack of availability…

Uh-oh!

There’s the matter of Reenie and Colter. How does she feel about him?

I don’t know what the writers will think when I say this, but she loves him and I think she always has loved him. I mean, how can you not? She trusts and respects him, but does that mean they are compatible for a relationship now? Does this mean he can check all the boxes and meet her needs now? Not necessarily. And this is the hardest part. It’s a give and take, back and forth. I think in every episode she finds out whether he could or not. So yes, but the chemistry is undeniable. The respect and trust are undeniable.

Yes, but I like and respect that she isn’t waiting for him. We see her with Elliot.

No, I mean, look, from a personal standpoint, in my current relationship, I waited a while, but that waiting didn’t stop me from doing anything, did it? I still went out and met people. I was still open, available and vulnerable, but I didn’t deny that I loved and cared for this other person, and as it developed, it would develop. And I think it’s similar where Reenie will never wait for anything, let alone a man. Like you said, she’s in control and she’ll do what she can, but she’ll roll with the punches, and if things change and things start to work, we’ll see.

Yes, it’s like having your own law firm. She didn’t wait for anything with her career, so why would she wait for anything in her personal life?

Facts.

But there is also Russell (Jensen Ackles)—

God.

This seems to be something that both Reenie and Russell know won’t get anywhere, but they both enjoy what it does to Colter when they mention it.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. I think we both love the other person and I think that’s what connects us. We both have a lot of banter and we’re both quite cheeky. So that we can see it reflected in each other and play what makes us happy. I think we will always have fun.

There are several unsolved mysteries involving Colter’s father and now the missing Gina. Does Reenie intend to get involved in any of them in a meaningful way? What will happen there?

I think Reenie has her point, especially with Colter’s vulnerabilities. She knows where he has some insecurities. He never presses these buttons because it would destroy their trust. I think the one thing they have in common in their trustworthy relationship is the fact that she doesn’t undermine, poke, or push. She allows him to share when he is ready. And I think some of the best relationships are like that. I don’t have to dig. I trust you. When it comes to these cases, it’s often about letting me know I’m there, but I won’t insist.

What about the Horizon Group?

Shady. Shady. I think it will drip a little more later, at least I hope so. I’m not in the room. But I think there are many layers of research into the things that Russell and Colter published that Reenie controls and helps research with Bobby (Eric Graise) and Velma to actually see if this would be a problem in the future.

What’s next for Reena?

I think her client list will be exciting for her, whether they bring her good or bad results, but I think the quality of her clients changes now that she owns her own business, which will cause a change in her life Sure.

Will we see more of her in the field and perhaps report more cases to Colter as a result?

Yes. On purpose, I don’t know. (He laughs) Colter is my boyfriend, but I always have to leave it to him. I can ask Colter if he can do the job. That doesn’t mean he will necessarily do it. There has to be something in it for him and it really has to help me if he’s going to get out of his way. So it’s up to him. He is his own man.

So could we see Reenie, Velma and Bobby working on something without him?

Oh, I would love that. I mean, what you’re going to see in the season is this growing relationship and this team that supports Colter and takes care of him, this little family that we’re building. I think this family is getting closer, much closer in the second half of the season, definitely.

Are there any future guest stars you can talk about? Maybe the recurring ones, like meeting Jensen again Melissa RoxburghDory, Jennifer MorrisonLizzie or new.

Honestly, I have no idea, but Jennifer has to come back. I mean, he has a long history with Colter, he’s just a star and an amazing one at that. And she directed the episode. It’s literally complete, so I can’t wait for it to come back. Of course we have to meet Dory again. I don’t know when, but what’s in that box? I want to know what’s in the box, right? But I can’t keep asking Colter about it because it will stress him out. So I’m waiting for him to call me and tell me. So yes, we need to see them again. I assume if they’re a really important part of Colter’s life, we need to see them again.
