Grizzlies players Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart are out week after week due to injuries

Memphis continues to struggle with injuries as it tries to establish itself in the Western Conference.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) The team announced Friday that Memphis Grizzlies starters Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart will miss multiple games due to injuries.

Both were injured on Wednesday evening 119-106 loss while visiting Brooklyn. Bane has a sprained right oblique joint and Smart sprained his right ankle. The Grizzlies said both are playing week to week.

Smart was injured in the first quarter and Bane was injured in the third. Neither played in the Grizzlies’ 122-99 victory over Milwaukee on Thursday.

Smart played in just 20 games last season after dealing with a sprained left foot and a toe injury.

Bane is second to the Grizzlies with an average of 18.8 points per game. Memphis (3-3) will play against Philadelphia on Saturday.
