(Gray News) – Several members of a Wyoming family have died in their home from possible carbon monoxide poisoning, authorities say.

Riverton police were called to a home after someone reported smelling fumes in the area.

The services broke into the house and discovered that several family members had died inside.

In total, the bodies of three family members, two adults and a small child, were found, as well as several dead pets. said the police.

Fire department officials monitored the situation at the home after receiving readings of dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the home.

Carbon monoxide may sometimes be called the “silent killer” because it is an odorless and colorless gas.

It can come from common household appliances, vehicle exhaust systems and heating systems, so vigilance and preventive measures are essential in every home.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
