A man shot and killed at a northwest Fresno apartment complex has been identified

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A man is dead after shootings at a quiet, gated apartment complex in northwest Fresno early Friday morning.

“There are a lot of young children in all these complexes around here. It’s really scary,” said neighbor Anjanae Freitas.

Shortly after midnight, Fresno police responded to shots fired at the Windscape Apartments on Nees near Poplar Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Tyler Hamon suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back.

Police say there were other people in the apartment when bullets flew through the front door.

“We found shell casings on the upper landing and bullet holes in the front door,” said Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes.

Five shots were fired, sending shockwaves through the densely populated community.

“It just sucks that we have family here. Many of us want to know that we will be able to go home, and I have to worry about anything happening while we are sleeping,” said resident Christian Reynaga.

Police say Hamon had an extensive criminal history.

This shooting is believed to be gang-related.

“Our victim actually has connections more similar to Tulare County. She had a prior domestic violence arrest and had some weapons charges and felony eluding charges dropped,” Lt. Cervantes said.

Neighbors say this is not the only incident in this estate in recent weeks.

“There was a drug theft here and then across the street. I think something else was going on,” Reynaga said. “Three things in two weeks. I think I would like it to end in some way.”

Patrol cars and CSI trucks were on scene for hours collecting evidence during the investigation.

“We have good evidence in this case that gives us real leads, but at this point we have not made an identification yet,” said Lt. Cervantes.

This is the 27th murder in Fresno, compared to 26 this time last year.
