A Bath man faces assault charges after attacking a Trump supporter at a grocery store

Police said Friday that a Bath man could face assault charges after attacking a stranger at a grocery store over a “Trump 2024” hat. According to reports, the argument began when the man was talking to the victim about her political attire and then escalated into a violent exchange of words.

Police identified the suspect as 60-year-old Robert Yott, who is accused of punching the victim multiple times in the mouth and head. Authorities said the victim suffered broken teeth and a bloody mouth as a result of the attack.

Yott was arrested and charged with assault and criminal mischief. He is being held in the Steuben County Jail awaiting arraignment.
