John Brown’s women enter their debut season | Arkansas Democratic Newspaper

JBU women’s season debut

The John Brown University women’s basketball team worked to build an 11-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, but a 21-4 Bluejay lead in the final six minutes of the game allowed Tabor (Kan.) to take a 73-67 decision Thursday night (Oct. 31) at Bill George Arena .

Freshman Sarah Snodgrass led all Golden Eagles (0-1) with a double-double in her collegiate debut, finishing with 26 points and 11 rebounds while also shooting 10 of 25 from the floor. Freshman Caelyn Ferguson added 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and grabbed three rebounds, while sophomore Abbey Sanders had 10 points, four rebounds and two assists, with all three playing all 40 minutes of action.

Tabor’s balanced attack was led by Alyvia Owens, who scored 27 points in the game, hitting 11 of 12 shots, adding 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Kloe Bowin and Hailey Contreras each scored 13 points in the victory.

For the first time this season, the Golden Eagles will hit the road as they travel to Oklahoma City for the annual Mid-America Christian (Okla.) Classic tournament. JBU will face Mission (Mo) on Friday (November 8) at 5 p.m. and Cottey (Mo) on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 12 p.m. Both fights will be broadcast on the SAC Sports Network.
