Penticton Newcomer Launches GoFundMe After Losing Everything in RV Accident – Penticton News

Morgan Sugg had only been in Penticton a few days when the brakes on her truck and trailer failed, sending her house tumbling down a mountain road, overturning and completely destroyed.

The accident on October 22 not only completely destroyed her home and many of her belongings, but also broke her femur near her hip.

Sugg said she stayed overnight in the Carmi area with another person and their two dogs.

“We came back the next morning because we heard there was a better place to come with a camper, right next to the road. So we were going downhill and as we were going down the hill the brakes stopped working and it basically just got faster and faster,” she added.

She tried to downshift, park the camper, and put on the emergency brake, but nothing worked.

“Nothing stopped us and we just kept rolling. If we had gone any further, I think we would have been sliding down a rocky cliff.”

Fortunately, a nurse living nearby heard the accident and ran over.

“She was laying there with me because I flew out the window,” Sugg added. “I think I was before the wreck and then my dog ended up on top of the hill and then the person I was with and his dog actually didn’t get ejected from the vehicle. So everything was fine.”

Sugg was taken to hospital, where staff performed emergency surgery and had 33 staples placed in her leg.

“It could have been much worse, many people died on this corner. It was definitely terrifying.”

During their five days recovering in hospital, Sugg’s dogs were received and cared for by the Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT), which helps care for and rescue animals in emergency situations.

“When I got out of the hospital, they helped me with dog food and stuff because we lost everything that fell over.”

Her dog was also taken to the vet, he had a few small scratches on his back legs, but fortunately he only had some bruising otherwise.

By the time the pair returned to the scene of the accident, Sugg said they only managed to recover two pairs of pants and a shirt. Everything else was destroyed.

“I raised enough (money) to get into a hotel room just for a few days until we can contact different resources and stuff like that to see who can help or can help us and try to find a place to stay. longer because I can’t walk with my leg.

The couple just moved to the area from Edmonton and unfortunately don’t have much family nearby.

Sugg said she was the one who started it GoFundMe which can be found online hereto help with medical expenses for rehabilitation, temporary housing and living costs, replacement of essential items and transportation while she tries to get back on her feet.

She said any support is greatly appreciated and if anyone has any physical items they can donate, they can contact her at 587-974-6666.
