The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office said one person was dead and another injured Saturday morning in a shooting at the intersection of Main and Elm streets in Eau Claire.

At approximately 12:43 a.m. on November 2, deputies, assisted by Berrien Springs Police, Michigan State Police, Benton Harbor City K9 and Medic 1, responded to the scene. Authorities found two male victims.

The first one, who suffered life-threatening injuries, did not respond when crews arrived. The second male victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both were transported to Spectrum Lakeland Health Hospital, where the first victim was pronounced dead.

The investigation quickly identified the suspect thanks to witness statements. The suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. He is currently in the Berrien County Jail on multiple charges.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until the family is notified.
