Man shot, deputy not injured in Jasper County officer-involved shooting

Sheriff Newman says the deputy was not injured and the man is being treated at CHRISTUS St. Hospital. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

A deputy responded to a call around 5:30 a.m. Saturday on Bon Ami Road north of Kirbyville when a woman said she needed help.

Sheriff Newman says the deputy encountered a man armed with a gun on his porch, and at some point during the encounter the deputy fired several shots when he felt threatened and needed to take action.

The deputy and the woman were unharmed.

The Texas Rangers and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
