3 Naga authorities have given a 48-hour deadline in connection with the attack on 2 men by a Meitei group in Manipur

Naga groups alleged that Arambai Tenggol attacked two Naga youths and robbed them of cash

Imphal:

Three influential Naga organizations on Friday issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Manipur government, demanding justice for two Naga men who were reportedly “brutally beaten up” allegedly by the Meitei Arambai Tenggol group in Imphal.

The Naga People’s Organization, Senapati District Students’ Association and Senapati District Women’s Association issued a joint statement giving the state government a 48-hour deadline and said they would continue to seek justice in the case of the two Naga men.

“The Manipur government must immediately bring justice to both victims within 48 hours. If we don’t do this, we will be left with no choice but to take further action to protect our community. We also appeal to all citizens of the district to remain vigilant and ready to take action and unite in seeking justice for our Naga brothers,” the three Naga bodies surrendered.

Strongly condemning the Arambai Tenggol attack, Naga authorities said a Meitei group brutally attacked V Hrangao Blesson Poumai and Dalou Poumai on Thursday at Lamshang in Imphal.

“In addition, officers confiscated an amount of R61,400 from two youths at gunpoint. Despite presenting identity cards, they were repeatedly threatened and attacked with automatic rifles, violating their fundamental human rights and undermining the fundamental values of life, respect and dignity, this blatant act of violence has no place in our modern society,” the Naga organizations said.

A statement by Naga authorities said the attack on Blesson and Dalou was a direct violation of their personal security, dignity and fundamental rights.

“This is not only an attack on two people, but also an insult to values such as entrepreneurship, hard work and social contribution. “Such behavior undermines the principles of professionalism, respect and peace that our society strives to uphold,” they said.

Due to the ethnic violence that has taken place over the last 18 months between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes, there have been some incidents involving Naga tribesmen in Imphal.
