Child of 3 injured in overnight collision on I-70

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (KCTV) – A 9-year-old was one of three people injured after a rollover crash on I-70 in Kansas City overnight.

The Kansas Highway Patrol indicates that just after 10 p.m. on Friday, November 1, emergency crews were called to the area of I-70 and 18th St. westbound for a report of a two-vehicle collision.

When first responders arrived, they found 22-year-old Darius Anderson, of Kansas City, driving westbound in the first lane in his 2013 Dodge Avenger. Meanwhile, Deondre Thompson, 32, also of Kansas City, was driving his 2014 Ford Edge westbound next to Anderson in the other lane.

State troopers said Anderson tried to change into the center lane and then struck the side of Thompson’s Ford. The impact caused Edge to veer off the road to the left, where he struck a barrier and overturned.

Emergency officials said Thompson and his two passengers, Brittany Reed, 30, and Mya Howell, 9, of Kansas City, were taken to the University of Kansas Medical Center with suspected minor injuries.

Law enforcement officials noted that Anderson escaped the crash without injury. All people involved in the incident were wearing seat belts at the time.
