Cardinal O’Hara wins District 13 volleyball title

Cardinal O’Hara defeated Academy of Palumbo 3-0 on Friday night to clinch the District 12 Class 3A title. This is the Lions’ 13th district crown in 17 years.

The Lions reached the final score 25-8, 25-17 and 25-14. Ashlyn Gualtieri led the attack with 11 kills. Kerigan Patterson added nine kills and Michele Eburough buried six kills on just seven swings. Bridget O’Reilly kept things strong offensively with 31 assists, while Julia Riley led the defense with seven digs. O’Hara (25-2) opens the PIAA tournament on Tuesday.

Field hockey

Caroline Chisholm’s two goals were enough to lead Agnes Irwin to a 2-0 victory over Springside Chestnut Hill on Friday.

Gabby Lee assisted on one of the tags. Sara Davis held the defense with three saves in goal.

Football

Episcopal Academy gave up two touchdowns to Springside Chestnut Hill’s defense in Saturday’s 28-9 Inter-Ac loss.

Churchmen avoided being hit by a safety with 1:40 left, followed by a 1-yard touchdown run by Spencer Schuh with 11 seconds left.

Liam Zelman hit Aaron Clark for a 56-yard touchdown, then ran for a 6-yard TD in the first quarter to give SCHA a 14-0 lead. In the second quarter, the Blue Devils converted turnovers and interceptions to score touchdowns.
