QB1 Derek Carr returns, but seven Saints are inactive for Sunday at Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WVUE) – For the first time since Oct. 7, Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr will lead an offense that hopes to snap a six-game losing streak on Sunday (Nov. 3).

Carr is active for the Saints’ noon game against the Carolina Panthers (1-7) in Charlotte, but his team is hampered by injuries, particularly at running back and extra defense.

Listed as inactive for Sunday’s game are cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore, Kool-Aid McKinstry and Rico Payton, linebacker Jamaal Williams, linebacker Jaylan Ford and linebacker John Ridgeway. Spencer Rattler is also listed as inactive as the team’s No. 3 emergency quarterback.

Previously ruled out of Sunday’s game were running backs Williams (groin) and Kendre Miller (hamstring), cornerbacks Lattimore (hamstring) and McKinstry (hamstring) and wide receiver Bub Means (ankle).

Miller and Means were placed on injured reserve on Saturday, meaning they will miss at least four games. Cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee) is out for the rest of the season.

Starter Alvin Kamara is available, but was limited in practice all week due to hand and rib injuries.

The Saints (2-6) filled some of the holes by signing defenseman Shemar Jean-Charles, backup Millard Bradford and returning Jordan Mims to the active roster. Safety Roderic Teamer and linebacker Tre Herndon were also transferred from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

Carr was on the field for the first three losses of the Saints’ six-game skid, and he left the Oct. 7 game in Kansas City with an oblique injury.

Rookie quarterback Rattler started three games in Carr’s place, but the Saints lost all three and were outscored in the contest 110-45. Rattler passed for just one touchdown and was intercepted twice, earning a quarterback rating of 35.4, which helped Carr.
