There was a crash at the Pickens Walmart near Easley on Saturday

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Pickens Police Department reports a shoplifting at Walmart led to a chase on Gentry Memorial Highway that ended with a crash near Easley on Saturday.

Officers report a K-9 unit was in the parking lot of the Walmart store in Pickens when a couple fled the store with a cart full of stolen items around 8:45 p.m. Walmart employees reported the theft, officials say.

Police said the pair got into their vehicle and drove at high speed onto Gentry Memorial Highway.

According to officers, the suspect’s vehicle overturned near the Easley city limits while attempting to make a turn.

Damon Brooklyn Gaines, also known as Daman Brooklyn Hikeem, Young Gaines, was taken to the hospital and Latonya Ramsey was taken to the Pickens County Detention Center, according to a police report.

Pickens Officers report the suspect is charged with shoplifting.

Ramsey was charged with shoplifting over $10,000.
