The Virgin Islands Police Department announced that a 17-year-old was shot and killed early Sunday morning near the Grandview Apartments housing development on St. Thomas.

According to police, a gunshot detection system alerted the 911 emergency center to multiple shots fired in the area around 2:39 a.m. Officers arrived and found one man suffering from gunshot wounds. The emergency medical technician found no signs of life.

The victim was identified as Kareem L. Pinney.

Pinney is the territory’s 33rd murder victim in 2024, records show Source kill list*. So far, St. Thomas recorded 20 murders a year, St. Croix 13, and St. John none.

Including Sunday’s shooting, nine people have died in the last 30 days alone.
