Kannada director Guruprasad’s wife Sumithra reveals shocking details after his alleged suicide; the police begin an investigation

Renowned Kannada filmmaker Guruprasad was found dead at his residence in Madanaiyakanahalli district of Karnataka. He was 52 years old. As reported by The Indian Express, the police suspect that it could be a suicide and have filed an unnatural death report (UDR).

The authorities said so Guruprasad he may have died four to five days ago because his body was discovered decomposing. His second wife Sumithra later mentioned to the police that the director was facing difficulties due to the financial crisis.

According to the report, a senior police officer said: “There were no signs of an intruder and the door was locked from the inside. His wife mentioned that he was struggling financially as he had accumulated significant debt from his film ventures, which may have been affected by this.”

Guruprasad’s wife further revealed that she tried to contact him over phone on October 25, but he never answered her calls. On November 3, a resident named Jayaram contacted Sumithra and reported a foul odor emanating from the apartment where Guruprasad was staying.

Police officials addressed the media and revealed that no suicide note was found at Guruprasad’s residence. However, the director’s body was sent for post-mortem for further examination at a government hospital.

In 2020, Guruprasad married Sumithra for the second time. They are the parents of a three-year-old daughter. The director also had a daughter with his first wife Arathi.

His most successful projects include the films Guruprasad Mata and Eddelu Manjunatha with actor Jaggesh. For the latter film, he was honored with the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Screenplay in 2009. His last film, also with Jaggesh, was titled Ranganayaka.
