Migori: A boy from a humble family who scored C+ in KCSE appeals for help to join campus

Student from Alendo, Kanyasa Migori County is seeking financial support from well-wishers to join the University of East Africa, Baraton.

John Otieno remains at home after deferring his university admission because his single mother was unable to raise the required tuition fees.

He achieved an average grade of C+ in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

I’m talking to TUKO.co.keOtieno’s guardian, Titus Bita, stated that Otieno comes from a very needy background familyand the mother earns her living by manual labor, working on farms to make ends meet.

“Father is dead; mom does small jobs like working on the farm to buy food. The extended family also lives from hand to mouth, so no one within them can help pay his fees,” he said.

What is the tuition fee for Theology at Baraton University?

According to Bita, Otieno is expected to report in January 2024 with the full amount required for admission.

He was offered a place in the Bachelor of Theology program, a course requiring KSh134,480 including tuition, administrative fees and boarding fees per trimester.

You will also be required to pay CUE, deposit and orientation fees – all payable once at KSh5,000.

Bita said they plan to appeal to local politicians, friends and Kenyans of goodwill to help Otieno realize his dreams.

“My pocket is not that big either, but I will do everything in my power to get this smart boy to go to school,” he said.

A girl from West Pokot who did not get into college is receiving help

In other news TUKO.co.ke reported that a disabled girl from West Pokot who failed to enter university received help after the government said it would reconsider her application.

Alpine Chepkorir obtained a grade of C+, but when others joined the university, she stayed at home due to the lack of tuition fees.

Like many students from needy families, Chepkorir applied for funding from the University Education Loans Board, but her application was allegedly rejected.
