For some time, northbound traffic was only in the left lane.

“When I arrived there was a lot more traffic, trucks were tipping over on their sides,” said resident Patricia Wilson.

The soldier was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“I know the paramedics were there. And when I left, they were pulling out the cart to put someone in it,” said driver Dedric McCullough.

Police did not immediately provide any information identifying the officer or details of the vehicle that hit him.
