Counselors available to Shelby students and employees in the event of a student’s death

SHELBY — Shelby Superintendent Michael Browning said the death of a Shelby High School student will have a profound impact on the school community.

Fourteen-year-old Graham Scott died Saturday evening after an all-terrain vehicle accident. according to a press release issued by Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent.

“Shelby City Schools is saddened by the loss of one of our students, Graham Scott,” Browning wrote in a news release sent Monday afternoon.

“We will have school counselors and outside counseling agencies available for students and staff as we navigate this difficult time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Graham’s family,” the superintendent wrote.

The incident took place on Saturday

The incident occurred Saturday just after 7 p.m., when the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office called 5550 State Route 96 in Liberty Township for a report of an ATV accident.

According to a news release from Kent, the crash involved a side-by-side vehicle that overturned and ejected two passengers. Two passengers of the quad suffered minor injuries.

Scott was driving the vehicle and was treated at the scene for serious injuries by the Liberty Township Fire Department, Life First Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Medical Services.

Scott was transported to Bucyrus Community Hospital by Life First EMS, where he was later pronounced dead, the release said.
