British tourists planning to visit Turkey have been given an urgent travel warning following a terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries near the capital Ankara.

The horrific incident, which left five people dead and several others injured, took place on October 23 at a center in Kahramankazan, about 40 km northwest of central Ankara.

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) warned that increased security measures had been introduced following the attack. This means travelers may face longer waiting times at airports. which could result in holiday chaos if people miss their flights and are left stranded.

The FCDO statement reads: “On October 23, a terrorist attack took place on the Turkish Aerospace Industries facility in Kahramankazan, 40 km northwest of central Ankara, resulting in the death of five people and the wounding of 22, as well as the death of two attackers.

“Although the incident has ended, actions are still ongoing, including increased security measures at Turkish airports, which means security checks will take longer than usual.

“If you are in the vicinity of an attack, please follow the advice of local authorities and monitor local media.”

Travelers near the area of ​​the attack were urged to follow advice from local authorities. Visitors were also reminded of the importance of staying informed by monitoring local media for updates.

Residents and visitors should remain vigilant and follow any safety instructions issued in response to the incident.

Elsewhere on the FCDO website, the statement warned holidaymakers that there was currently a high risk of terrorism in the country.

The FCDO said: “There is a high risk of terrorist attack around the world affecting the interests of the UK and UK citizens, including from groups and individuals who see the UK and UK citizens as targets.
