A pursuit of an Augusta County Sheriff’s Office vehicle ended in a multi-vehicle crash

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a vehicle pursuit in the Fishersville area Monday night that ended when the suspect rear-ended another car and caused an eight-vehicle crash.

The chase began when the Blue Acura failed to yield at the intersection of Ramsey Road and Tinkling Spring Road. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Long Meadow and Jefferson Highway, where the driver caused a multi-vehicle crash.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was identified as 36-year-old Justin Riley Harvey of Stuarts Draft. Harvey is said to be a fugitive from law enforcement due to active warrants out of Waynesboro County Court on the following charges.

• §18.2-51: Offense Malicious Wounding

• §18.2-154: Offense Malicious shooting at a vehicle

• §18.2-53.1: Use of a firearm in the commission of certain crimes

• §18.2-308.2: Violent felon in possession of a weapon

Harvey was then transported to Augusta Health with minor injuries, while other charges are pending. The remaining people involved in the crash were transported to Augusta Health for treatment, and one person suffered serious injuries. Virginia State Police will continue to investigate the crash.
