Protest in Osogbo over the shooting of the Chairman of the Osun Transport Management System, Alowonle

DAILY POST reports that members of the Osun State Transport Management System are currently protesting.

The action is against the shooting on Monday evening of Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle, Chairman of the Osun State Transport Management System, by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Osun State Police Command.

The Aregbe Park expressway was blocked by protesters, thereby disrupting the free flow of traffic.

An eyewitness, Muhammad Jamiu, revealed that the protest had an impact on commercial transport and some private vehicles were allowed to pass through.

“It’s hard here. The road has been blocked and a police presence is needed before the situation gets out of control.

“No commercial buses are allowed to pass through here at the moment. Only a few private cars were allowed through,” the source said.

DAILY POST reported that police arrested Alowonle on Monday evening for possessing a police pistol and ammunition.

However, in reaction, the state government through Kolapo Alimi, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, on Tuesday raised the alarm over the alleged shooting of Alowonle, who was close to death in police custody over a domestic case.
