An alleged drunk driver crashed into a parked car

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Surveillance video captured an alleged drunk driver crashing into a parked car just before a Toledo man went to pick up his daughter.

The man and his family are now warning against driving under the influence of alcohol.

Grateful that as fate would have it, Corey Lee is grateful that he wasn’t in the car at the exact moment he was supposed to go to pick up his daughter.

“I just got a message to pick her up at 10:27 p.m., and I sat on the couch for a while because I was tired,” Lee said.

Moments after receiving the message to answer it, he heard a loud bang.

“My car was pushed all the way down the road, right around where the car was, hanging halfway across the yard,” he said. “Her car came back this way and straight into the driveway here.”

On Saturday evening along Starr Avenue near Plymouth Street, Angelica Perez was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the street with a blood alcohol level of 0.188.

Perez, who has two previous OVI arrests, allegedly hits Lee’s car and then his car in a neighbor’s driveway.

“They were shocked when they went outside and saw a car parked in their driveway,” Lee said.

Tire marks and burnt rubber remnants can still be seen on the street, which Lee’s mother said she was also grateful for.

“I would have woken up on Thanksgiving if my son had gotten in the car five minutes earlier,” said Brandy Carpenter.

Witnesses say that after the crash, Perez allegedly acted aggressively and tried to fight people.

Lee’s message is simple.

“It’s not worth drinking and driving if someone can give you a ride.”

Lee now doesn’t have her own transportation to work or pick up her children.

As for Perez, she was arrested, charged and ordered to appear in court.
