Police report details alleged sexual assault by Pete Hegseth – NBC New York

A woman told police she was sexually assaulted by a man she identified as Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for defense secretary, according to official records of a police investigation released in California on Wednesday evening.

Documents released by Monterey police show that the woman, identified only as “Jane Doe,” met Hegseth in 2017 at a Monterey hotel where he was speaking. Hegseth has not been charged and denies any wrongdoing.

The allegations surfaced last weekend when Hegseth confirmed that they had paid an undisclosed amount as part of a settlement with his accuser.

Hegseth’s attorney, Timothy Parlatore, told NBC News that the sexual assault allegation against his client is false.

“Ms. Hegseth is innocent, eyewitnesses and video recordings confirm that she was the aggressor, and years later she extorted money from Mr. Hegseth. Our position on this matter has been unchanged for the last 7 years,” Parlatore said in a statement.

Trump’s transition team did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment.

Hegseth, a former Fox News host, is one of them three loud types joining Trump’s new cabinet, which have faced serious allegations of sexual misconduct.

The report said an unidentified woman, who was later hospitalized for a sexual assault evaluation, confronted Hegseth during the event because she “didn’t appreciate the way he treated women,” the report said.

The woman stated that she drank “a small amount of champagne” at the after-party, but did not remember whether she drank “strong alcohol.” She and a group of other women went to a bar attached to the hotel, where they had more drinks, allegedly also in the presence of Hegseth.

“That’s where things got complicated,” she told police. The report states that she texted a friend that she had consumed more alcohol than usual during the day. The woman believed that some drug had been added to her drink.

According to the report, when she left the bar, Hegseth followed her – she assumed based on their earlier argument – and she told police she remembered Hegseth saying he was a “nice guy.”

Then the woman found herself in an unknown room. She told police that Hegseth asked who she was texting and took her phone, then physically blocked her attempt to leave the room. “JANE DOE remembers how often she said ‘no,'” the report said.

“JANE DOE’s next memory was of lying on a bed or couch with HEGSETH above her,” the report said. She said his dog tags were hanging above her face and he was bare-chested.

She told police he ejaculated on her stomach, then threw her a towel and asked, “Is everything OK?” The woman stated that she did not remember returning to her room and that the alleged encounter with Hegseth only came to her attention after she returned home. The report shows that four days later she went to the hospital for an examination.

After the incident, Hegseth told police that he had consensual sex with the woman and that he made sure she was comfortable with what was happening. He said he had not planned to initiate sex with her and that she subsequently showed signs of “early signs of regret”, although he did not elaborate on what those signs were.
