Police say the mom left her toddler at home alone with her two dogs so she could meet Hinge

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX/Gray News) – A Texas mother allegedly left her toddler at home alone with her two dogs so she could meet a Hinge person out of town, according to authorities.

On July 28 at approximately 9:50 a.m., Killeen police were dispatched to the apartment complex to check on the child’s welfare.

Before arriving at the scene, the officers received information that a child was jumping out of a broken window and an aggressive dog was trying to attack it.

When authorities arrived, they found a 16-month-old toddler with his head and arms sticking out of the window of a first-floor apartment and an aggressive dog charging at other residents who were trying to help the child.

The officers noticed that the window was not broken, but had previously been repaired using cardboard and plexiglass.

After removing the cardboard and plexiglass to get into the apartment, they found a 16-month-old child wearing only a T-shirt, feces and diaper rash symptoms were visible on the skin.

Police contacted the child’s mother, Reese Louise Myers.

Myers said she was in San Antonio to meet a guy she met on the dating app Hinge.

San Antonio is about 260 miles southwest of Killeen – about a 2.5-hour drive.

Myers also allegedly told police she had a babysitter she contacted through Facebook to look after the child.

Police met with the caregiver who previously cared for Myers on Dec. 2, 2023, and told authorities she had not spoken to Myers since then.

Myers was arrested and charged with child abandonment/endangerment.
