CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – The Charleston County Coroner has identified the man who died in an officer-involved shooting Thursday.

Andrew Williams, 37, of Charleston died at MUSC at approximately 10:47 a.m. from a gunshot wound.

Police say the shooting happened near King and Line streets after 10 a.m. The police received a report of a fight between two men.

When they arrived on scene, one of the two men, now identified as Williams, pulled out a firearm and two officers fired, Lt. Anthony Gibson said.

Police treated Williams at the scene, but he was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

The situation was recorded by a camera recorded by a driver driving past the scene of the incident.

Officers turned the investigation over to SLED, which is standard procedure for incidents involving law enforcement.

Further details are expected to be released on Friday morning.
