A man accused of strangling his unconscious wife

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A Jonesboro man faces assault charges after police say he choked his wife until she lost consciousness and control of her bodily functions.

Craighead County District Court Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Friday to charge 45-year-old David Shook with aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony.

Court documents show that on November 20, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Thorn Street.

The victim told officers that Shook “became irate” around 9 p.m. on November 19.

She said he “held her down and choked her until she lost consciousness and released her bodily functions.”

The victim stated that Shook left after the alleged assault.

The statement said the woman had marks on the right side of her face and a cut behind her left ear, as well as bruises on her arms and legs.

On November 21, Shook agreed to be interviewed by Mirandized at the police station.

Detective Madison Dobbs noted in court documents that Shook “admitted that he caused harm to his wife and choked her.”

Shook is being held in lieu of $35,000 cash/surety bail and awaits a Jan. 24 hearing in District Court.

After noting that Shook was a parolee with a “very long history” of violence, Fowler also issued a no-contact order.
