Six people were injured in a house explosion in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) – Six people were injured when a house exploded in Jefferson City early Saturday morning.

According to Jefferson City Fire DepartmentThe explosion occurred around 3 a.m. at 2400 St. LouisRoad.

On-scene EMS crews administered intensive care interventions, including advanced airway management procedures and the administration of CyanoKits (hydroxycobalamin). The fire department says two patients were flown to University Hospital of Columbia and the remaining four were transported by ambulance to University Hospital.

The Jefferson City Special Operations Rescue Team had to carefully dig through layers of debris to reach the last patient, who required intensive extrication. Officials say all the people left the house around 6 a.m. Injuries are moderate to severe.

According to the fire brigade, two animals were also rescued from the house and are in animal care.

Fire services are still investigating what caused the explosion.

Crews that responded included eight units from the Jefferson City Fire Department and Jefferson City Police Department, 37 fire and EMS personnel, nine emergency medical services, three chief officers and three medical helicopters. Mutual aid was provided by the Osage, Callaway and Mid-Mo Emergency Medical Services Districts, MU Air Medical, Mercy LifeLine and AirEvac Lifeteam.

The City of Jefferson Department of Public Works also provided an excavator to help remove debris.
