NEW YORK — David Harris, the actor known for his starring role as Cochise in the 1979 action thriller “The Warriors,” has died. He was 75 years old.

Harris died Oct. 25 at his home in New York after a battle with cancer, said his daughter Davina Harris. New York Times.

Born June 18, 1949 in New York City, Harris attended the High School of Performing Arts before landing his first screen role in “Judge Horton and the Scottsboro Boys,” a 1976 Emmy-nominated television film about nine black men who were imprisoned after… falsely accused of rape.

Three years after his screen debut, Harris landed the role of Cochise in The Warriors, directed by Walter Hill, based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel of the same name. “The Warriors” centers on a street gang that is falsely accused of murdering a rival gang leader and must make their way through New York City back to their home turf in Coney Island. The film, which also stars James Remar and Michael Beck, has become a cult classic since its release in 1979.

“We thought it was a short film that would pass and no one would talk about it anymore,” Harris said of “Warriors” during Interview 2019 for ADAMICradio. “I’ve been to Hong Kong, I’ve been to the Philippines, I’ve been to Tokyo. I’ve made a lot of movies, but when I get off the plane, people say, “That’s the guy from Warriors.”

After “Warriors,” Harris also had notable roles in 1980s films, including “Brubaker,” “A Soldier’s Story,” and “A Deadly Beauty.” He also appeared in television episodes of “NYPD Blue,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” His last role was as Uncle Bepop in 2019 in an episode of “First Wives Club”.

According to reports, Harris is survived by his mother, daughter, sister, two brothers and two grandchildren.
