An Erie man wanted in Millcreek was captured after a chase out of town

An Erie man wanted by Millcreek Township police on assault charges in connection with a reported road rage incident that occurred in late August was arrested late Friday afternoon after city police said he led officers on a high-speed chase from Erie to Millcreek.

Michael A. Rogers, 30, was arraigned Saturday on felony charges of fleeing and eluding police to avoid apprehension, a misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide and several multiple driving offenses during the pursuit. Court records show he also faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in connection with a reported road incident in Millcreek.

Erie police accuse Rogers of fleeing an attempted traffic stop following an incident that began around 5:30 p.m. Friday at 2100 West Eighth Street. According to police, a person spotted Rogers, who they knew was wanted in an assault case in Millcreek, and called Erie police. When officers spotted the vehicle reportedly driven by Rogers and tried to stop it near Frontier Park, the vehicle began to accelerate, Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said Monday.

Lorah added that a pursuit ensued, covering parts of the city and entering Interstate 79, with speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour. According to Lorah, Rogers’ vehicle exited the interstate in Kearsarge and was traveling west on Interchange Road, where it struck an SUV on Zuck Road, sending the SUV into the police vehicle.

Rogers reportedly fled into a wooded area and removed some of his clothing before officers detained him. Lorah added that a woman who was with Rogers was also arrested.

In the Millcreek case, in which Rogers was wanted, city police accuse him of assaulting another man on Aug. 30 in the 2600 block of West 38th Street. The motorcyclist, who told police that Rogers almost hit him with his vehicle, followed Rogers’ vehicle and, Millcreek police said Monday, when the motorcyclist confronted Rogers, the motorcyclist was punched in the face, knocked to the ground and then more impacted.

According to the police, the victim suffered a broken nose and facial fractures.

Bail was set at $20,000 in each of the two cases in which Rogers was arraigned Saturday. His lawyer was not listed on his criminal record.
