A Norfolk man arrested after an alleged assault in hospital

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) – A man has been arrested and faces assault charges in connection with an incident at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Norfolk police say 46-year-old Robert P. Baker Jr. he was very restless and walking quickly when they first made contact with him around 2 a.m. on Friday. Baker allegedly disclosed that he had consumed methamphetamine and attempted to go to a hospital for treatment.

Norfolk Emergency Medical Services responded and, with an officer present, transported Baker to Faith Regional Hospital.

At the hospital, Baker grabbed a pregnant health care worker and removed her name tag. Police say that because of Baker’s aggression, hospital staff asked Baker to leave the hospital.

As Baker was being escorted out of the hospital, he began running toward nurses. He was then immobilized and ordered not to harm other health care workers.

However, Norfolk police say Baker was held in custody and tried to remove a Taser from one officer and tried to take another’s firearm.

Baker was arrested and taken to the Madison County Jail. He is currently charged with third-degree assault on a health care worker, two counts of attempted second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, obstructing a peace officer and criminal mischief.
