Guy Pearce opens up about the one film he feels should have received more recognition and why he thinks it was a flop.

In 2017 New York Times AND “New Yorker”. reported that dozens of women accused Harvey of sexual assault, sexual abuse and rape, which then sparked what would later be called the #MeToo movement. In 2020, Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree sexual assault and rape in a trial in New York. (He was acquitted of three remaining charges, including predatory sexual assault and first-degree rape.) In April 2024 his sentence was overturned and in September he pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of criminal sexual conduct. Weinstein is being held on Rikers Island awaiting retrial on rape charges and was recently transferred to a nearby hospital for medical reasons.

In addition to the Weinstein allegations, Pearce said Us that the film was made during a particularly difficult period in his personal life. “During the filming, I turned 39, which, strangely enough, was the age when my father died,” he explained.

Pearce was 8 years old when his dad, Stuart – a pilot – died in a plane crash in 1976. Although Pearce’s memories of his father are “sort of based on photos,” he reflected on what he thought his dad would have thought of his acting career.

“I actually have a feeling he wouldn’t be that interested. I think he would have preferred me to be in the army, which wasn’t going to happen,” Pearce joked.
