A crash in Fresno County left a person dead in Tuesday’s fog

A driver was killed and a passenger was injured in a collision in fog Tuesday morning near Parlier, the CHP said in a news release.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of McCall and Parlier avenues, north of Selma.

A Chevrolet truck traveling westbound on Parlier Avenue reportedly stopped at a stop sign and then entered the intersection, where it struck the right front of a large commercial rig traveling northbound.

The collision pushed the Chevrolet under the big rig, causing the truck to catch fire and throw the man onto the road. The services announced that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman, a passenger in the truck, was rescued by a passing driver and taken to hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the big rig was not injured.

Authorities cited heavy fog as the probable cause of the crash. They warned of an increase in accidents in the area due to poor visibility, urging drivers to reduce speed and use dipped headlights during fog.
