James Harden’s former teammate makes a powerful statement after the Clippers-Warriors game

James Harden’s former teammate makes a powerful statement after the Clippers-Warriors game

James Harden made waves when he joined the Clippers in November 2023, calling himself “The System.” Harden didn’t have a proper training camp with the team last season, but that hasn’t happened this year as he’s already shown why he deserves the nickname.

The Clippers completed a mini-tour of Golden State and Denver with a 2-0 winning streak, and it wouldn’t have happened without Harden. For Golden State, Harden scored 23 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds to help the Clippers earn their second victory of the season.

In Kawhi Leonard’s absence, Harden was needed to shine the most. During an episode of FanDuel TV’s Run It Back Show, Harden’s former teammate and former sixth man Lou Williams praised Harden’s ability to elevate the Clippers.

“But how quickly we forget when James Harden’s success has ever been dependent on someone else being on the court,” Williams said. “That’s where he feels best, we’re talking about a former league MVP. Is it still a system? He has no one to submit to. I think that’s when he plays his best basketball. If you give him the ball, he’ll win a lot of basketball games just by being James Harden.

He’s only played three games so far, but Harden has averaged 25.0 points, 11.7 assists (league-high) and 8.3 rebounds. In a season where the Clippers needed a star to shine brightly, Harden filled that role perfectly.
