CNN Anchor Skeptical of White House Cleaning Up ‘Garbage’ of Biden’s Comment: ‘You Can Listen to This’

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins expressed skepticism about the decision White House is trying to clean up President Biden’s controversial “trash” comment about Trump supporters on his official record.

Biden sparked backlash Tuesday night after calling former President Trump’s supporters “garbage” during Harris’ campaign virtual call with Voto Latino. He took a look at former President Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, which made headlines after the insults comedian Tony Hinchiffe joked mocking various ethnic groups, and in one joke calling Puerto Rico a “floating garbage island”.

“The only garbage out there is his supporters,” Biden said during the phone call. “His, his, his demonization of Latinos is unwise and un-American.”

However, the White House sent a transcript, adding an apostrophe to indicate that Biden was only talking about one supporter, not all of them: “The only garbage I see there is the garbage of his supporter – him – his demonization of Latinos is unwise and it’s un-American.”

During an interview with Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Collins didn’t buy the change.

“The White House is trying to say that what President Biden said is putting an apostrophe in the words ‘supporter’ by claiming it’s a singular form, I believe, referring to a comedian?” These “supporter” comments?” Collins told Shapiro.

“It means it’s really hard to look at it when you can hear it with your own eyes,” Collins added.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Biden tried to explain away his social media comments as being directed solely at one supporter.

“I previously called the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico made by a Trump supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally garbage — that’s the only word I can think of to describe it,” Biden wrote in X. “His demonization of Latinos is all that matters. “I wanted to say, the comments at this rally do not reflect who we are as a nation.”

A White House spokesperson previously told Fox News: “The president called hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally ‘garbage’.” Harris’ campaign did not immediately respond. Fox News Digital request for comment.

Shapiro, once considered a leading vice presidential candidate Kamala Harrisrunning mate, distanced himself from Biden’s comments.

“I would never insult the good people of Pennsylvania or any American people, even if they decided to support a candidate I did not support,” Shapiro told Collins.

Asked if Biden should clarify his statement, Shapiro replied: “Well, I think President Biden will decide what he wants to say. “I certainly wouldn’t choose my words, and I think it’s important that we continue to focus on the contrast between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and not attack supporters of either candidate.”

These words were met with widespread condemnation on social media. Trump himself reacted to Biden’s “terrible” comment during a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

“Remember Hillary? She said “deplorable” and then “irreparable,” right? But she said “deplorable.” It didn’t work out, it was ‘garbage’ in my opinion,” Trump told his supporters. “But he doesn’t know. You have to forgive him. Please forgive him. Because he doesn’t know what he said.”
