SeaWorld San Antonio is naming two new aquatic animals

SAN ANTONIO – Last summer, SeaWorld San Antonio welcomed two adorable animals to its aquatic kingdom.

However, the names of the four-month-old beluga calf and the Pacific white-sided dolphin calf remained a secret until Tuesday, when the park released them all into the “sea.”

The male beluga is named “Rurik”. He was born weighing 135 pounds but now weighs over 300 pounds.

A calving female dolphin is called “Mai’a”. She weighed 23 pounds at birth and has now almost quadrupled.

Another interesting fact is that “Mai’a is the Hawaiian word for banana, which is derived from its original nickname given by animal specialists: “Baby Nana” or “BNana.” She was named so because her mother’s name is Ohana.

Guests can meet two calves and their mothers during the Oceans Discovery and Beluga Whale Tour presentations.

Additionally, during the first two weekends of November, guests can have a unique opportunity to interact with these animals and other favorites such as turtles and killer whales during Inside Look at SeaWorld.
