On Thursday, the Pune crime branch produced Mohini in a Shivajinagar court, which remanded her to police custody till December 30. She is accused of hiring contract killers to carry out the murders.

Seeking her custody, inspector and investigating officer Sudarshan Gaikwad told the court: “The motive behind the murder needs to be probed, whether it was for financial gain or an illicit relationship.”

According to Gaikwad, he allegedly paid Mohini 5 lakh to accused Akshay Jawalkar for organizing contract killing. “We need to determine how much money was paid and how the transfer was made,” he said.

The police told the court that the two accused, Navnath Gursale and Atish Jadhav, had disposed of the murder weapon in the Bhima river in Perne Phata and efforts were on to recover it.

Special prosecutor Amrapali Kasture argued that police custody was necessary to reveal key details, including the exact motive, the person behind the crime and the source of the murder weapon. She said police needed to investigate whether more suspects were involved in the crime.

The accused Pawan Sharma, Vikas Shinde, Gursale and Jawalkar have been sent to judicial custody while Jadhav is in police custody till December 30.

On December 9, Satish, MLC Yogesh Tilekar’s maternal uncle, was kidnapped by five people during his morning walk and taken towards Saswad in a vehicle. Within 15 minutes, the accused inflicted 72 wounds on the victim and murdered him and then dumped the body at Shinprezent Ghat. The crime branch arrested the accused based on CCTV footage.
