After the accident, the man was airlifted to hospital, escaping from law enforcement

CALHOUN COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – One man was seriously injured after he crashed his vehicle while fleeing law enforcement on October 27, sending him to the hospital.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), a trooper was sitting stationary on GA 216 north of Arlington in Calhoun County near Turman Road and observed a 2016 Nissan Maxima vehicle traveling south at a high rate of speed. The driver was traveling at 79 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour speed zone.

As the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle increased his speed even further as he entered the city of Arlington. The officer then announced that he was starting a pursuit.

GSP claims that the driver of the vehicle failed to maneuver around the bend and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, striking two utility poles, several mailboxes, driveway signs, a fire hydrant and downing power lines from a house.

The police provided assistance to the driver and called an ambulance. The driver was airlifted to Tallahassee with serious injuries.

The driver was later identified as Jamaal Wesley.

A specialized collision reconstruction team, Troop G SCRT, was called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.

We will provide more information after receiving it from officials.
