A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Onchan

A section of Whitebridge Road was closed for around seven hours following the accident

Police confirmed that a pedestrian died early Sunday morning after being hit by a vehicle.

The accident occurred at around 03:30 GMT on the A2 Whitebridge Road in Onchan, near the Manx Fun Barn.

Isle of Man Police said the pedestrian was taken to Noble’s Hospital but was pronounced dead an hour later.

Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was “assisting police with their inquiries”.

Parts of the road were closed for approximately seven hours while investigations were carried out.

In a statement, police said: “Our thoughts and condolences go to the family and friends of the deceased.

“We urge the public to refrain from making public judgments or assumptions intended to show respect for family and friends during this difficult time.”
