Community honors officer killed in crash

LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) – London Police Sergeant Logan Medlock died two years ago Wednesday, marking a somber anniversary for the London community.

Medlock was killed when a drunk driver hit his police car moments after his shift started.

Police, family and others will gather for a memorial march starting at 6pm at the London Farmers Market. The walk will then end at the site of the crash where he died.

He leaves behind a legacy that community members say is not easy to match.

“His legacy will testify to what a divine man he was. What a good father and husband he was. He was simply an outstanding police officer and public servant for this community,” Hobie Daugherty said.

Medlock is also remembered every year during a fishing tournament in his honor.

Casey Byrd, who was charged with murder following the crash, remains in custody at the Laurel County Correctional Center after being sentenced to 20 years in prison.
