‘The truth will come out’: Former Republican Party candidate arrested for allegedly stealing ballots

He was a Republican from Indiana who ran unsuccessfully for Congress arrested earlier this week amid allegations that he stole sample ballots during a voting machine test.

Police allege that on October 3, 51-year-old Larry Savage stole several ballots during a voting machine test in Madison County, Indiana. Police say surveillance footage shows Savage stuffing several ballots into his pocket.

Indiana test ballots are marked as such but can still be read by voting machines and used to cast a real vote. Indiana requires test ballots to be destroyed after they are used to test voting machines. In video shared on Facebook about Savage’s confession on Tuesday, he said “the truth will come out.”

“I think that’s what they do with political opponents,” said Savage, who received less than two percent of the vote in the GOP primary.

He faces charges of destroying or losing a ballot and a misdemeanor count of theft.

While Savage has not been found guilty and any intention behind the allegedly transferred ballots is unclear, his story appears to be part of a larger wave of ballot destruction as the election approaches.

Earlier this week, ballot boxes were set on fire in Oregon and Washington. Local authorities destroyed hundreds of ballots between two drop boxes in Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon. This fire occurred after several ballots were intentionally burned in Arizona apparent arson.
