Ohio Man involved in fatal crash on Muskingum River Oct. 20 identified | News, sports, work

DEVOLA – The person who died in an Oct. 20 boating accident on the Muskingum River has been identified, according to a report from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

David Lyle Lashley, 55, of Ohio, whose address was not released, was the man who died in the crash, according to an ODNR report obtained through a public records request.

Guernsey County resident Anthony L. Lashley, 58, of Pleasant City, Ohio, witnessed the deaths of Lashley and the second person on the boat, according to the report.

According to the report, the accident occurred on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. on the Muskingum River at the Devola Lock and Pool. The report listed the location of the accident as 549 Ohio River Road, 84, Muskingum Township, Washington County.

“At 7:30 p.m. on October 20 in Muskingum River County, Washington, two men were returning to the ramp when the vessel… appears to have struck an object in the water, causing the driver and passenger to be ejected,” the report said. “Both individuals were transported to a local hospital in Marietta, Ohio. The passenger was pronounced dead.”

ODNR press secretary Karina Cheung previously told The Times that one person ejected from the boat managed to pull the other aboard and then went to a nearby private wharf to get help. According to Cheung, CPR was performed on the person pulled from the water by the emergency medical team, but was not successful.

The report indicates that the boat involved in the accident was a Lowrance HDS9 powerboat, which was seized as evidence by the ODNR.

Cheung said ODNR personnel, an Ohio Division of Wildlife officer and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

The accident is listed as “it’s not a crime” in the case report.
