Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan’s mother-in-law was injured after a car crashed into a tea shop

Bill Corgan’s mother-in-law was injured after a car drove through his Madame ZuZu’s Tea Shop in Highland Park, Illinois, on Wednesday.

The Smashing Pumpkins singer (57) – married to Chloe Mendel – shared a statement on behalf of his wife in Instagram post shortly after the accident.

Corgan’s post shows that his mother-in-law was at the tea shop and cafe for lunch with their son, 8-year-old Augustus Juppiter Corgan, who was uninjured in the incident.

“This afternoon at Madame ZuZu’s, a car (in circumstances that remain under investigation) ran off the curb and hit Madame ZuZu, shattering a window and unfortunately injuring one person – my mother, Jenny; who spent the day and had lunch with my son August,” Mendel’s statement shared by the rocker explained.

“Fortunately, he managed to jump away and was not injured,” he added. “Our family is grateful for the quick assistance of first responders from Highland Park and Deerfield.”

Corgan’s Tea Room, located at 1876 First St., will remain closed until further notice.

The Smashing Pumpkin co-founder did not provide any details about the extent of his mother-in-law’s injuries or her condition after the accident; However, according to them, two people – including the driver – were taken to hospital Record.
