Rush hour traffic disruptions following multi-vehicle collision on the M74

“Several people” have been taken to hospital after a five-car collision on the M74 in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to junction 5 of the motorway, at the Raith junction, at around 8.50am on Thursday.

Due to the collision, lanes one and two northbound were closed.

Due to delays of up to 30 minutes, drivers were urged to find alternative routes.

Traffic Scotland said: “Two lanes blocked following a multi-vehicle collision. Road users are advised to exercise caution

“Emergency services are on site. Heavy rear end, delays approx. 25 minutes.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 8.40am on Thursday, October 31, 2024, we received reports of a five-vehicle collision on the M74 at junction 7, near Raith Interchange.

“Emergency services arrived at the scene and several people were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Recovery planned.”
