Schools from the eastern part of the country represent BIIF in the shooting states

The Hilo girls and boys, Waiakea girls and Kamehameha Schools-Hawai’i boys did the Big Island proud Tuesday at the HHSAA National Air Rifle Competition on O’ahu.

The Vikings’ foursome of Sarah Mukai, Kathryn Son, Anuhea Ferreira and Caitlin Inada placed second overall in the girls competition with a total score of 756-28, a solid score of 654-8 and a 688-16 kneeling score and score team 2086-52. Mukai was the team’s top individual performer, placing eighth overall with a prone score of 189-9, a standing score of 178-5, a kneeling score of 178-8, a qualifying score of 545-22 and a final individual score of 625.9.

The Hilo boys team of Kamamalu Kotake, Jeremiah-James Sioloa-Carvalho, Reyn Kaneshiro and Kuhio Haili-Mizumoto placed third in the boys team competition with a total prone score of 737-26, standing score of 632-7 and kneeling score 703-17 and final team score 2072-50. Kotake had the highest individual final score in the group with a score of 537-14, good enough for eighth place.

Francis Dela Cruz of Waiakea, who won the overall competition last year, also placed in the top ten individual competitions. This time, Dela Cruz took seventh place overall and became the best individual BIIF finalist in the girls competition. In total, she achieved a prone score of 189-8, a standing score of 175-3, a kneeling score of 181-4, a qualifying score of 545-15 and an individual score of 627.9

The BIIF boys’ best individual performer was Kainalu Pakani from KSH, who took sixth place with a score of 190-8 prone, 173-3 standing, 176-2 kneeling, 539-13 in qualifying and a final individual score of 617.8.
