Several people were injured in a high-speed TTC crash overnight

At least eight people were injured and one person faces charges after a high-speed overnight crash involving a TTC bus Thursday morning in North York.

A TTC bus driver and multiple passengers were injured in a collision near Yonge and Finch, where a pickup truck allegedly struck a transit vehicle at high speed around 4:20 a.m.

Police say the driver of the pickup truck, who was also injured in the crash, fled the scene but was later arrested.

Six people were taken to hospital, three of whom were taken to a trauma center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and three others suffered minor injuries.

TTC interim CEO Greg Percy issued a statement regarding the accident, admitting that “shortly after 4 a.m. this morning one of our buses was involved in a serious collision in the Yonge and Finch area.”

“The operator was transported to hospital along with several customers who were on the bus. I share everyone’s concerns for the well-being of our colleague and our clients. Our thoughts are with all of them at this time.”

Percy assured passengers and employees that safety “is my top priority,” adding that “today’s incident is a sad reminder of the challenges the TTC faces on the road every day.”

“We will support the operator and any employee who needs it as a result of this incident,” Percy said, adding that the TTC will also continue to support Toronto Police in the investigation.
