A Virginia State Police patrol car overturned when a vehicle wanted in a carjacking rammed it during a chase Wednesday that ended with troopers fatally shooting the suspect.

The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. when an officer tried to stop a vehicle wanted by US Park Police in connection with a car theft. WRC-TV coverage. The driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued, eventually reaching Interstate 95 near Triangle.

When the police started chasing the fleeing vehicle, the suspect hit the police car, knocking it over. The soldier inside was not injured, and no deputy officers were injured in the incident.

After the collision, the driver began to make ““he made many sudden, furtive movements with his hands” and the soldiers opened fire. The suspect was struck and killed by gunfire.

After the incident, the passenger was taken to hospital in stable condition and is awaiting surgery. The third suspect was arrested.

The shooting is under investigation.
