Jaguars Star Blunt On Week 9 Opponent

The Philadelphia Eagles defense has allowed the fourth fewest yards of any team this season. They have allowed the sixth fewest first downs, sixth fewest rushing yards and sixth fewest yards of any team this season.

They did all this while being the least penalized defense in the National Football League this season.

The Jaguars offense, which has struggled this season, will face one of the most respected defenses in the league this Sunday. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has been coaching for decades and consistently delivers decent defense.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence knows how difficult it will be to move the ball against Fangio on Sunday.

“Yes, (Vic Fangio) has played for a few different teams recently. Then his coaching tree is pretty big too,” Lawrence said. “So I mean you look at the Chargers or something like that when Staley (San Francisco 49ers associate head coach/defense Brandon Staley) was there, that defense with a similar system. Denver played a similar pattern against him, and then my rookie year, Denver also played against him. So yeah, I mean he’s just a well-coached defense. They know what to do. Everything looks the same, really good costumes.

Lawrence noted that Fangio and the Eagles’ defense does a solid job of hiding their defensive schemes, making it difficult to predict what’s coming.

Although Lawrence has faced Fangio before in his career, he understands that the Eagles’ personnel make this unit one of the best that Fangio has had since coming to the league.

“Everything comes out of this shell and then, in the blink of an eye, it changes,” he added. – Lawrence said. “They are good at hiding some of the pressures. They mix the fronts. This is not a group that necessarily exerts much pressure. They just do it at the right time. They are on the same page. They really highlight your protection when they like to play one-on-one from above.

“This D-line is a really good group. So they play to their strengths and then the guys at the back start flying. These fans are really physical, very physical. Then the backroom is smart and they have good ball skills and they all play together. So I think looking at the season, they’re getting better every week.

The Jaguars have lost a lot of games this season that they should have won. Sooner or later, the Jaguars will have to win a game they didn’t expect. Sunday’s game against the Eagles would be the perfect time.
