Police say a motorcyclist has died in a crash in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A motorcyclist involved in Sunday’s crash on Washington Pike has died, according to Knoxville Police Department Communications Manager Scott Erland.

Erland said the accident occurred around 5 p.m., when a Chevy SUV swerved into the motorcyclist’s path, causing him to hit the car. The incident occurred near the Target on Greenway Drive.

“The driver was then ejected onto the road,” Erland said. “The green light came on for both the Chevy SUV and the motorcycle.”

Erland said the motorcyclist, a 51-year-old man, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he died Wednesday evening.

Erland said that at this time, officers do not believe the driver of the SUV was speeding or under the influence. The driver was fined for failing to give way.
