Warren police released video Wednesday of a car chase that ended with a fiery crash and an arrest in June.

According to a statement accompanying the video, Warren Police Department officers were patrolling a neighborhood near Ryan and 12 Mile Roads on June 8 at 8:50 a.m. when they saw a black Dodge Charger without a license plate.

Officers attempted to stop the driver of the Charger, 22-year-old Keith Jones, but the Warren resident drove away, sparking a pursuit that lasted several minutes.

Patrol camera footage shows Warren police following the Charger on residential roads with sirens activated.

According to the video, Jones stopped briefly on the curb, apparently obeying police orders to stop, and then accelerated again when officers turned off their sirens and ordered him to turn off his car.

Police said Jones collided with an uninvolved driver and a truck near Eight Mile and Mound Road, causing the uninvolved driver’s car to burst into flames.

Dashcam footage from two police cars shows large flames and smoke coming from the uninvolved car as officers arrived at the scene.

Officers used fire extinguishers while the uninvolved driver – a woman whose name was not mentioned in the statement – was still inside.

Footage from two police officers’ body cameras shows officers pulling the woman by her arm through a side window and pulling her away from the flames.

Firefighters from the Warren Fire Department also responded to the scene, extinguished the fire and provided medical assistance.

The statement says officers arrested Jones at the scene and treated him for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Jones pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree fleeing and eluding, a 10-year-old felony.

The statement shows that he was sentenced to both imprisonment and a suspended sentence. Online court records do not indicate under which court or legal representation Jones pleaded guilty.

WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) reported Wednesday that Brittny Turner, the woman injured in the crash, has filed a $60 million civil lawsuit against police officers and the city of Warren for emotional and physical damages.

The station reported that Turner broke her jaw, broke her pelvis in three places, broke three toes, and suffers from memory loss and limited mobility.

“The department recognizes the seriousness of all pursuit incidents,” according to a WPD statement released Wednesday along with the video. “This pursuit, like all others, has been subject to a significant review process to ensure that all activities and tactics are consistent with the department’s goals, objectives and policies.”

The video release follows Chesterfield Township police stopping driver who lost control on an Interstate 94 exit ramp after police flattened his tires with stop sticks mid-pursuit. The man was wanted for fleeing and eluding Warren police.

Chesterfield Township police are seeking an arrest warrant for the suspect, Detective Sgt. Joseph Feld told The Detroit News.

According to Michigan State Police, a total of 23 people died and 148 were seriously injured in Michigan between October 22 and 29.

The total of 865 deaths and 4,666 serious injuries so far in 2024 is still less than the combined totals for both categories in 2023.
